Fontanafredda’s origin is rooted in a captivating love story between the first King of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele II, and Rosa Vercellana. In 1858, as a symbol of his affection, the future Sovereign bestowed the land that now hosts the winery.
Fontanafredda thrives as a community deeply committed to respecting the land. Presently, it cultivates over 120 hectares of certified ORGANIC vineyards, forming the picturesque setting for Italy’s pioneering Narrating Village—a testament to a new era: the Green Renaissance.
Fontanafredda Barolo: A Royal Heritage in Every Sip
Experience the regal allure of Fontanafredda’s Barolo, hailed as the King of Wines and the Wine of Kings. Crafted exclusively from pure Nebbiolo grapes, this wine traces its roots back to the mid-19th century, courtesy of Carlo Alberto di Savoia and Marchesa di Barolo Giulia Colbert Falletti.
Situated in the heart of the Langhe on the hills of 11 municipalities, including the esteemed Serralunga d’Alba, Fontanafredda boasts a rich history of over 160 years, marked by groundbreaking innovations. From shipping the inaugural Barolo overseas in 1886 to introducing the first Barolo with vineyard indication on the label (Barolo Vigna La Rosa) in 1964, and producing the inaugural Barolo with communal mention in 1988—separately vinifying grapes from the Serralunga d’Alba municipality—Fontanafredda remains a pioneer.
As one of the largest private Barolo producers, representing about 6% of the entire denomination, Fontanafredda offers iconic Barolos like Barolo Serralunga d’Alba and Barolo Classico, alongside niche treasures like Barolo Vigna La Villa and Vigna La Delizia, echoing the desires of Emanuele Alberto, son of the first King of Italy. The exceptional 2019 harvest led Fontanafredda to vinify unique selections such as Vigna La Rosa, Vigna Gallareto, Vigna S. Pietro, Vigna Bianca, Barolo Riserva Bussia, and the M.G.A. Fontanafredda.
In each sip of Fontanafredda Barolo, discover a narrative of the Langhe’s biodiversity—unveiling the nuances of its climate, the passion of its people, and the individuality of each vineyard and MGA. Experience the royal heritage in every glass.

The Barolo DOCG from the Municipality of Serralunga d’Alba 2019 marks the second chapter of the Renaissance project.
For this vintage, trust is the foundational value—a trust in ourselves, in humanity, and in a better world. A luminous ruby-red color with bright garnet reflections, this Barolo captivates with an intriguing floral nose reminiscent of faded roses and the underbrush. The intense aroma gives way to more complex and elegant spicy undertones. Silky yet taut on the palate, it is enveloping and vibrant. The young and energetic tannins express the full aging potential typical of a great Barolo.
Barolo DOCG Vigna La Rosa
Vigna La Rosa, Fontanafredda’s most representative and historic vineyard, pays homage to Rosa Vercellana. Named after her, the wines evoke floral scents from this sandy, calcareous, and marl-rich terroir. Situated in the heart of M.G.A. Fontanafredda in the final part of Serralunga, renowned for its elegance and depth, this vineyard gives life to a deep, long, and warm Barolo.
Barolo DOCG Proprietà in Fontanafredda
The M.G.A. that lends its name to Fontanafredda, an amphitheater of vineyards among the 181 M.G.A. that constitute Barolo. Located in the initial part of the municipality of Serralunga d’Alba, it stands out for its finesse and elegance. This Barolo aims to express its roots in a dense and silky tannic structure while presenting itself as a mentor of freshness. Distinct floral notes and red fruits on the nose conclude with hints of pine resin, camphor, and apricot jam. On the palate, it is fresh, rich, with notes of licorice and pink pepper.
Barolo DOCG Riserva
Produced only in select years, when nature surpasses human intervention, this Barolo is crafted following tradition, selecting only the best grapes from historically well-exposed vineyards. A wine that evokes powerful emotions—intense garnet-red color with ruby reflections. The clean and intense aroma reveals cherry notes and spices like nutmeg and pepper. The taste is warm, soft, with sweet and velvety tannins.
Barolo Chinato
The Barolo after Barolo—an indulgence for post-dinner and an excellent aperitif when served chilled with ice, seltzer, and orange. Fortified with alcohol and characterized by a blend of spices and Calissaja bark, it offers a highly intense and complex aroma. The dominance of Calissaja bark brings forth distinct hints of cinnamon and cloves. An ideal specialty to delight your guests’ palates.
