The xtraWinexperience has already told you about the prestigious French winery Château Mouton Rothschild in connection with labels designed by internationally renowned artists. Today, we present this winery as a partner of an excellent Italian winery, Castellare di Castellina. In 2007, this collaboration led to the birth of Rocca di Frassinello in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma.
Rocca di Frassinello
Between the towns of Gavorrano and Roccastrada, thus in the centre of the Tuscan Maremma, the joint venture between the Italian winery Castellare di Castellina and the prestigious French winery Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite gave birth to Rocca di Frassinello. This new winery was inaugurated in 2007.
It is the realisation of the project of two friends, Paolo Panierai, owner of the famous Castellare winery in the Chianti Classico area, and Baron Eric de Rothschild, head of the prestigious French winery.
The wines from this art winery are the synthesis of passion and profound knowledge. They represent Panierai’s experience in cultivating and vinifying the Tuscan grape variety par excellence, the Sangioveto, and Lafite’s experience with classic French grape varieties, namely Cabernet, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Shiraz.
It was an ambitious project that was successfully realised, enhanced by the contribution of architect Renzo Piano, who was responsible for realising the winery’s facilities.
The wines of the new project are researched, blended, and produced thanks to the collaboration between Alessandro Cellai, the oenologist of Domini Castellare di Castellina, and Christian Le Sommer, the oenologist of Domaines Baron de Rothschild Lafite.
xtraWine offers you to taste the
Rocca di Frassinello Maremma Toscana Rosso 2018
This wine is a marvellous blend of 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 40% Sangioveto, which Le Sommer described as highly competitive.
Right from its colour, it shows its great personality: an intense ruby red with garnet reflections. On the nose, it offers a fruity bouquet underlined by a pleasant spiciness. It is a wine that easily combines strength, intensity and elegance thanks to the soft tannins that make it round in the mouth. Indeed, the taste reveals itself to be deep but, at the same time, lively and well-balanced.
Therefore, it is undoubtedly perfect with red meat dishes, roasts, game, and aged cheeses.
