We asked and you answered. Winter is your favourite season. The coldest time of the year is also the best time of the year for many of the Italian wine lovers who visit Xtrawine, which got us to thinking.<\/p>\n

What is it about winter that makes it so great?<\/a><\/p>\n

We\u2019ve wracked out brains and come up with a few reasons why we all love winter so much.<\/a><\/p>\n

Italian Wine by the Fire<\/strong><\/p>\n

Let us set the scene for you here. You\u2019ve just finished work and you have to brave a long commute back home in the winter weather. It\u2019s freezing cold, it might be raining, and you\u2019re going to end up feeling frozen to the bone by the time you set foot in your house.<\/p>\n

It doesn\u2019t sound like the most pleasant experience, does it?<\/p>\n

But then there\u2019s what comes afterwards. You get out of you wet clothes and into something warm and comfortable. You light the fire and curl up in front of it with a gorgeous glass of Italian red wine<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After all of the stress and coldness that came before, there is nothing quite like the feeling or warming your bones with a roaring fire and a great glass of Italian red.<\/p>\n

For us, that would be more than enough to make winter the best time of the year<\/a>. But there are plenty of other reasons why we love the season.<\/p>\n

Christmas Celebrations<\/strong><\/p>\n

Of course, winter isn\u2019t all about spending quality time on your own in front of a roaring fire. It\u2019s also the best time of year to bring your family and friends together. For it is during winter that Christmas falls, which is perhaps the most joyous time of the year.<\/p>\n

Christmas represents so many things. For the religiously-inclined, it\u2019s the time of year to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and everything that he means to those who follow the Christian faith.<\/p>\n

For those who don\u2019t Christmas is still a time for exchanging presents and seeing people who you may not have had the opportunity to see during the rest of the year.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s also a certain atmosphere that makes winter the perfect setting for Christmas. After all, there\u2019s a reason why so many people hope that it will snow during Christmas.<\/p>\n

The simple fact is that Christmas and winter are inexorably linked. In fact, the beginning of winter is when many people start their countdowns to Christmas in earnest. Plus, the last couple of months of winter are when you can enjoy all of the wonderful gifts that you received during event.<\/p>\n

Of course, Christmas is also a time for celebration, and we all know what that means. The traditional Christmas dinner, coupled with all of the parties that you go to, are perfect time to sample a few Italian wines. You have the traditional celebratory drinks, such as Prosecco. But a dinner party at somebody else\u2019s house may expose you to a whole world of wines that you\u2019ve never had the chance to experience.<\/p>\n

Cosy Mornings<\/strong><\/p>\n

Have you ever woken up on a Saturday morning and felt like there\u2019s all of this pressure to get out of bed?<\/p>\n

The sun is shining and you feel too warm to stay under the sheets, no matter how comfortable you were before you woke up.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s something that will never happen during the winter. In fact, there are few things better than waking up on a dark winter\u2019s morning, taking a look outside, and deciding that you\u2019d rather stay all warm and toasty in bed.<\/p>\n

Winter offers you the chance to hibernate and not feel bad because of it. We can\u2019t claim that we don\u2019t love the season a little bit just for that fact alone.<\/p>\n

It Looks Beautiful<\/strong><\/p>\n

Imagine you\u2019re walking down the street during the night. Frost lines the pavement and the night is crystal clear. The stars are shining and the frost reflects light from the street lamps above. Trees have lost their leaves and their branches point up towards the heavens in stunningly intricate patterns.<\/p>\n

You walk into the city and see all manner of stunning decorations, especially during Christmas time. Or, perhaps the ground is lined with inches of snow, and there are snowmen standing to attention as far as the eye can see.<\/p>\n

The point that we\u2019re making is that winter is a truly beautiful time of year. There are few things more satisfying that walking around in your warmest clothes and enjoying all of the beauty, both natural and unnatural, that surrounds you.<\/p>\n

An Easier Morning After<\/strong><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s be honest here. We\u2019ve all gotten carried away while drinking Italian wine. One glass leads to two, which leads to three, which leads to five, and who knows how many more. Soon, you and your friends have drained several bottles.<\/p>\n

The morning after is never going to be pleasant, as you have the dreaded hangover to look forward to.<\/p>\n

But there\u2019s something\u2026easier about dealing with a hangover during the winter. We think it\u2019s because the sun really does you no favours when you feel ill and sweaty already. Waking up to burning sunshine outside will have you crawling for the tap in desperate needs of water.<\/p>\n

Waking up with a hangover during winter isn\u2019t anywhere near as bad. You feel warm and cosy in your bed, rather than hot and uncomfortable. Sure, you may still have the headache and all of the rest of the things that come with a hangover. But it just all feels so much more manageable. Plus, you don\u2019t have to feel guilty if you make the decision to stay in bed all day.<\/p>\n

Fresh Air<\/strong><\/p>\n

Following on from out hangover point, is the air any fresher at any other point of the year than it is during the winter.<\/p>\n

Just stepping outside and taking a deep breath is enough to fill your body with freshness. Sure, the winter chill may be biting. But it also invigorates your body and gets you ready for anything that you may face during the day.<\/p>\n

The Final Word<\/strong><\/p>\n

So, those ae a few of the reasons that we can think of for why winter is such a special time of year. Naturally, a few of them relate to how perfect the season is for Italian wine lovers.<\/p>\n
