It\u2019s those very festivals that we\u2019re going to take a closer look at here. Let\u2019s look at some of the most famous summertime festivals <\/strong>in all of Italy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Opera Festival<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Held in July of every year in Verona, The Opera Festival<\/a><\/strong><\/em> runs all the way through to early-September. That means you don\u2019t have to fret if you haven\u2019t had the chance to attend it yet. You\u2019ve got more than a month before it finally closes down for the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to a celebration of music<\/strong>, there are few better festivals in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Umbria Jazz Festival<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Perhaps opera <\/em>isn\u2019t really your thing. Instead of the carefully rehearsed pieces that you see on stage, you prefer something that\u2019s a little more freeform <\/strong><\/em>and inventive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Umbria Jazz Festival<\/a><\/strong> is likely right up your alley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event takes place in Perugia every single year and is a celebration of one of the most innovative musical art forms on the planet. For 10 days during July, revellers gather to enjoy some spectacular music<\/strong>, with some gorgeous food and Italian wine, of course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The festival has welcomed some of the world\u2019s most famous jazz and blues musicians since its founding in 1973. The likes of Eric Clapton, Elton John, and Carlos Santana<\/strong> have all played spectacular shows in some of Perugia\u2019s most stunning venues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And that\u2019s without mentioning the dozens of street performances<\/strong> that you\u2019ll get to see if you spend the entire 10 days at the festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a stunning mix of Italian and global jazz that will leave any music fan feeling like they\u2019ve gone to heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Festa della Madonna Bruna<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, you\u2019ve missed the Festa della Madonna Bruna if you didn\u2019t get the chance to attend it in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s held on July 2nd<\/sup>every year in Matera<\/a><\/strong>. But of course, if you\u2019ve missed it this year it just means that you have something to look forward to for next year!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Festa della Madonna Bruna<\/a> is one of the most historic festivals<\/strong> on this list as it\u2019s been held since the 14<\/strong>th<\/strong><\/sup>century<\/strong>. It\u2019s a commemoration of an ancient miracle and it\u2019s a great festival to attend for anyone who\u2019s of the Christian persuasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event is a little more subdued than the other festivals on this list. The highlight is the procession of the Virgin Mary through the streets. Mounted on a grand carriage, the Holy virgin is escorted by several columns of knights, all of whom are on horseback. Various state and church dignitaries give speeches and the entire thing ends with a stunning fireworks display<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yes, you won\u2019t get the same party atmosphere that you get from many other festivals. However, the entire day is definitely an interesting sight to behold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Palio di Siena<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

From a fairly subdued festival we go to one of Italy\u2019s most thunderous<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Palio di Siena<\/a><\/strong> is the country\u2019s most famous horserace. But you won\u2019t see the jockeys doing their thing on the track. Instead, the horses gallop through the streets of Siena and run laps around the Piazza del Campo<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a truly remarkable display that takes place twice per year. The good news for you is that the summer event takes place in August, so you still have time to travel to Siena to see it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each race features 10 riders, each of whom represent a specific contrade<\/em><\/strong>. These are essentially the districts of the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And don\u2019t fret if you\u2019re not much of a horseracing fan. For many, the true highlight of the event are the open-aired feasts<\/strong> that each contrade hosts the day before the race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That means you get to enjoy some amazing food and Italian wine. Then, after a little bit of rest, you can watch one of the year\u2019s most spectacular and skilful races.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
