You\u2019re having a great evening with your friends. The music\u2019s playing and you\u2019re all catching up on what\u2019s happened in your lives over the past few months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then it happens<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019ve been ideally sipping at your glass of Italian wine all night. It\u2019s almost become an extension of your hand. But that means that you don\u2019t notice when one of your friends gets a little bit too close.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You bump into one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That Italian wine that you\u2019d been so lovingly sipping is not all over your top.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And it\u2019s so difficult <\/strong>to get out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s the nightmare situation<\/strong> for any wine lover. All you can do is hope that the clothes aren\u2019t especially valuable. If they are then they\u2019re ruined, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, not exactly. You see, there are several things that you can do to remove Italian wine stains<\/strong> from your clothes. Just follow these steps to return your clothes back to new so that you can forget that the spill ever happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step #1 \u2013 Act Fast<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You may feel the temptation to leave the stain until tomorrow. You head away from the party for the moment to grab a change of clothes. The stained item goes into the laundry basket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And then it stays there, possibly for a couple of days, before you finally get around to washing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By that point, it\u2019s usually too late. You\u2019ve ended up giving the wine loads of time to bed into your clothes. You may find it impossible to get rid of it at this point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So the first tip is simple. Act as quickly as possible<\/strong> in the wake of the spill. This isn\u2019t a job that you can just leave until tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step #2 \u2013 Protect Anything That\u2019s Underneath<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Wine will soak through your clothes, which means it has the potential to stain anything that\u2019s underneath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If that\u2019s just\u00a0your skin then you don\u2019t need to worry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But if you\u2019re wearing something underneath the clothes that the spill hit, you need to do something about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The quickest solution is to take off the affected item<\/strong> so that the stain doesn\u2019t soak through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But if you can\u2019t do that, for whatever reason, you can pop a paper towel under the stain<\/strong> instead. The towel will now soak up any wine that penetrates the material of your clothes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step #3 \u2013 Soak it Up<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Now that you\u2019ve protected the rest of your clothes, it\u2019s time to deal <\/em>with the stain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your first step is always to soak up <\/strong>as much of the liquid as possible. Use paper towels or napkins, which you should press lightly<\/strong> against the stain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do not rub<\/strong> the stain with the towels. This will cause more of the wine to soak into the fabric and may also make the stain larger. Just press until no more wine soaks into the towel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step #4 \u2013 Keep the Stain Moist<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Allowing the stain to dry after dabbing can lead to it bedding in. That means you\u2019ve got to find a way to keep it moist<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s where you might make a big mistake. Using warm water seems like the natural solution here. But it doesn\u2019t work. Warm water will actually work with<\/em> the stain, allowing it to bed deeper into your clothes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead, you want to use cold water or soda water<\/strong>. Both will keep the stain moist without allowing it to get deeper into your clothes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some will also tell you that you can use Italian white wine when cleaning an Italian red wine stain. We think that it\u2019s safer to go with water, but you can try it if you want to take the risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step #5 \u2013 Use Salt to Soak Up More of the Wine<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Grab a salt shaker and pour some of the salt into your hand. While the stain\u2019s still moist, cover it with salt<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Use your paper towels to press the salt against the stain. You should see that the salt starts to absorb <\/strong>a lot of the wine straight away. When you think it\u2019s absorbed as much as possible, use your cold\/soda water to wash the salt crystals away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Examine the stain again. If it\u2019s still fairly heavy, repeat steps 3, 4, and 5. You\u2019re looking to soak up<\/strong> as much of the stain as possible before you take any more steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step #6 \u2013 Pre-Treat the Stain<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When you\u2019ve blotted out and lifted as much of the stain as possible, it\u2019s time to launder your clothes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead of throwing them straight into the washing machine, pre-treat <\/strong>them with a stain remover first. Follow the instructions on the stain removers label to ensure you don\u2019t mess this up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can also create a paste using water and baking soda to pre-treat the stain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step #7 \u2013 Launder the Clothes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Now, you can wash the clothes as you normally would. Make sure that you follow the instructions for washing the fabric.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On a general level, you still need to avoid using hot water<\/strong> when laundering. The stain is still an issue and using hot water could cause it to set. You don\u2019t want that, even if the stain will be more faded than it would otherwise have been.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Set your washing machine to 30 degrees Celsius<\/strong> and use\u00a0a quality laundry detergent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step #8 \u2013 Don\u2019t Iron or Tumble Dry<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Instead, hang the clothes up and examine them for any remnants of the stain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you can still see traces of the stain, you should follow the steps again. It\u2019s likely that you\u2019ll just be able to pre-treat and launder again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You want to avoid ironing and tumble drying<\/strong> until you remove the stain for the same reason that you avoid using hot water. Heat may cause the stain to set, which makes it practically impossible to remove.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Final Word<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Follow these steps and you\u2019ll be able to remove any Italian wine stains from your clothes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just remember that speed <\/strong>is of the essence. The longer you leave the stain, the more likely it is to bed into your clothes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
